Fans may be dying to see André 3000 and Big Boi link up for a new project, but 3 Stacks isn’t stressing it much. In fact, he says he’d be fine if he and his fellow Organized Noize-bred superstar never put out another OutKast album. He says as much in a new interview with Complex. Speaking on what, exactly, he’s into these days, the occasional beat-destroyer reveals he really just isn’t all that interested in the prospect of recording a new album with Daddy Fat Sacks. For him, aside from intermittent stellar guest verses, rap’s sort of a “been there, done that” situation. “It’s really just an excitement thing, and where I am in life. I kind of like not being a part of [rap], now that I’ve done it,” he explains. “As I get older, I start to see myself move more back from it—the hustle and bustle of putting out an album, the pressure of being in the studio trying to come up with something. Now it’s more like a hobby for me, so I don’t think about it in that way. Even with Outkast — if we never do another album, I’m totally fine with that. When I was 25, I said I don’t want to be a 30-year-old rapper.
I’m 42 now, and I feel more and more that way. Do I really want to be 50 years old up there doing that? When I watch other rappers that are my age I commend them, but I just wonder where the inspiration is coming from. At this stage I’m really more focused on what I am going to be doing 10 years from now. And I hope to God it won’t be rapping.” Big Boi and 3 Stacks haven’t put out a project together since their 2006 soundtrack for the film, Idlewild. Before that, it was their universally acclaimed double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Of course, 3 Stacks’ revelation probably means we shouldn’t be expecting him to drop a solo album any time soon, either. However, he does say he’s studying music theory and that he’s picked up a few new instruments since his turn as the lead in the 2013 Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi: All Is by My Side. Now, there’s a good chance all we’ll be left with is the occasional fire guest verse from Mr. 3000. At least we have Big Boi, though, whose latest album titled Boomiverse, is pretty dope.
